Coastal Watchers

Monitoring
the Edge of the Sea
Project Pacific is developing a program involving "Coastal
Watchers" who will observe coastal events and record data on a daily basis. The
program will serve two purposes: 1) to educate citizens about the edge of the sea and
human influence on it; and 2) to develop a database of "normal" and unusual
events.
Volunteers will be
given basic marine/coastal environmental training along with the essential aspects of
water safety, fish & game regulations, water pollution, and other topics. Individuals
will be assigned to a well-defined section of the coast to monitor. Reporting will occur
daily via Project Pacific's
website and all data/observations will be available to the public.
Advisors from various local, state,
and federal entities (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Marine Technology Society,
Lifeguard Services, et al) will guide the "Coastal Watchers"
program.
If you would like to participate in
the "Coastal Watchers" program once it is launched, please send
an e-mail to actions@projectpacific.org
and type "Coastal Watchers" in the subject line.
